20m Projects - Dipole Antennas

A full-size ( = ˝λ) dipole antenna for the 20 mtr band spans about 10 meters (33 ft). One of the 20 mtr antennas that I built is a half-size 2-element "yagi" beam antenna, based on a design by Gary Hanson (KJ5VW). The "driven element" of such antennas is a dipole.

This mini dipole was described in Practical Wireless and Sprat recently in addition to the Five-Watter, the magazine of the Michigan QRP Club.

If you’ve got a few old shower curtain rods hanging around – you can build a low-cost 20m shower rod dipole antenna. Additionally, if you add a tripod, and a matching transformer, and you’ll have a robust field deploy-able antenna. It can also be manually steered for better performance and searching for nulls.

After chatting with Budd W3FF I decided to try my hand at building a rotateable dipole specifically for the 20m band as this was my area of interest for DX and field station work.
